Fire near Box Canyon: Containment confirmed


Sunday, Aug. 23, 2:10 p.m.:

Chad James from DNR reports the Box Canyon is in fact contained, after reaching 114 acres.

"Fire was contained last night at approximately 10 p.m.," James says. "The fire also had DNR response from west Klickitat, East Klickitat, Yakima, and BIA, totaling six engines. We also had three dozers and two DNR helicopters. The fire is currently being staffed today and in mop-up status with a DNR Type 4 incident commander, DNR strike team of five engines from Pacific Cascade region, two local DNR engines, and Rural 7 resources. We expect to have the fire controlled and contained by the end of shift today and leave in patrol status. The fire is currently under investig...
