Winter's coming, home energy assistance available through WGAP and KPUD


Although the weather doesn’t seem like it, winter is coming and Washington Gorge Action Program can help you with Home Energy Assistance. It is available to low-income families, disabled individuals, seniors on low and fixed incomes, and residents that are in danger of losing their heat source. Assistance can be provided for almost any heating source, including electricity, natural gas, propane, and wood. Also along those lines, the Klickitat PUD approved the Low-Income Senior Discount Program effective December 2015 through May 2016.If you qualify you could receive a discount on your utility bill. Contact Klickitat County Senior Services at 1-800-447-7858 starting Oct. 1, when they will begin taking applications for the Low-Income Senior Discount program. The discounts are offered for months from December 2015 through May 2016.

If you like cowpoke humor and good old stomping hoedowns, the historic Bingen Theater will host a “Cowboy Music and Poetry Contest” on Sunday, Oct 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. This is an opportunity to see a variety of award winning entertainers sharing some of the best music and poetry from western culture. Maybe you have something you’ve written and want to share? Admission is voluntary with a suggested donation of $10. An Appraisal Fair will be hosted by the Maryhill Museum on Oct. 24, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Find out if those family heirlooms or garage sale treasures, are a bonanza or bust by four renown leading regional art dealers and appraisers donate their time and knowledge, each in their own area of expertise. From American Indian art, collectibles, antiquarian books, fine and decorative arts and jewelry. Their opinions and appraisals are informal but always educational. Cost: $10 for the first item; $25 for three (includes free museum admission).
