Nelson throws for three TDs in Cougar home win

CONVOY: Lyle-Wishram's Larry Dorr follows blockers Gavyn Nelson (7) and Brendon Stuart for an 8-yard gain against Mitchell-Spray in eight-man football action, Friday in Lyle.

Four long strikes in the first half propelled the Lyle-Wishram Cougars to their third win of the season, a 34-14 romp over Mitchell-Spray. Gavyn Nelson got the Cougars on the board early with the third play of the opening drive, a 41-yard pass play to Mason Goolsby. All five of the Cougars' scoring plays were runs or passes of at least 37 yards.

With five minutes left in the first quarter, Nelson threw outside to Elijah McCullough, who looked in and the pass fell incomplete. He came back with the same play on the next down and this time laid the ball into the outstretched hands of McCullough, who shook off a tackler and raced for a 65-yard touchdown.
