To the Editor:

In the wake of the classroom shooting at Roseburg, in a time when grieving Americans are looking for answers, in a time when confusion and emotion bring irrational solutions, responsible, patriotic Americans have a duty to offer alternatives.

It’s no accident that Lee Greenwood’s words in the ballad “God Bless the USA” were a hit all across America. His words, “The flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away,” is true, but only as long as we “Don’t forget the men who died who gave that right to me.” All across America, men and women are struggling, and feel that the political class has abandoned pursuit of basic principles in the Bill of...
