Catch up on the ACA

To the Editor:

When Congress passed the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2010, many of us had questions about how health insurance coverage would be changing. Since open enrollment began in 2013, we now have some answers, but, maybe, more questions.

For example: have those people with pre-existing conditions been able to get good medical coverage at the same prices as you and me? Has the coverage of those up to age 26 on their parents policies worked out? Have hospitals been just as swamped in their emergency rooms as before? Are more ordinary working folks, many who went without health insurance for years, now breathing a sigh of relief, and making basic health visits to their doctor? Is the potential for improving the health of our citizens starting to be realized?

Bring your questions, experiences, and comments to an open forum hosted by Klickitat County Democrats. Guest speakers will be Rob Kimmes, CEO of Skyline Hospital; Jonathan Blake, McCoy-Holliston Insurance and vice-chair of Skyline; and Rudy Vasquez, managed care director of Sea Mar Community Health. This non-partisan event will be held at the White Salmon Library, Monday, Nov. 2, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can email comments or question before the meeting to so that our guest speakers can prepare more specific information. This is a chance to get the facts from those that know how the ACA is doing.
