Van Wilson

Van Wilson, son of Catherine (VanVactor ) and Elmer Wilson was born on August 21, 1938 and died on October 12, 2015 in Portland. He was raised and graduated from High School in Goldendale, Washington. Both sides of his family had deep roots in Klickitat County. His grandfather, William VanVactor, was Klickitat County Sheriff in the 1880’s and his Wilson grandparents homesteaded in the Horseshoe Bend area.

Van graduated from Central Washington College in 1960, and began a career in management and administration, in the housing and health care fields. After a short time in Longview, where he made life long friends, he moved to Portland where he lived the rest of his life.

He had a gift for friendship and made many friends throughout his life. He was a loyal friend and once a friend of Van’s, you were a friend for life. He lived to survive many who were dear to him—his parents, Marge and Homer Silver, his aunt and uncle, Charlie and Louise Wilson, and many others.

Cousins, including Dick Wilson and Velma Johnson of Bickleton and Sharon Wilson Gisler of Albany and their children and grandchildren, survive him.

His close friend, Dale DeLong of Portland and the many whose lives he touched, also survives him.

An informal celebration of his life was held in Portland on October 26, 2015.

His final resting place will be in Goldendale and an informal lunch and gathering will be held at the Methodist Church on Sunday, November 15 at 12:00 pm, followed by a graveside service.
