GM talks about KPUD rate increase, China, lawsuit


General Manager Jim Smith of the Klickitat PUD (KPUD) says the utility’s proposed rate hikes are carefully considered; there is indeed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Chinese energy firm; and the utility is trying to keep a liability lawsuit from literally becoming a federal case and tried in Yakama Nation tribal court.

“We signed an MoU with HydroChina a month, month and a half ago,” Smith says.
