Dream of what could be and ask, 'Why not'?


In a Nov. 4 Goldendale Sentinel article—”New vision, and some old problems, for the Chamber”—Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dana Peck praised the Goldendale Observatory and recognized its great importance for tourism and enhancing the revenues for local businesses. I applaud those in the business community who recognize the value the Observatory brings to the local economy. However, while the Goldendale Wikipedia web page states the Observatory is “the main attraction of the city,” the historical failure to value and protect the Observatory’s nighttime sky remains one of the most significant “old problems” facing our community, including the business community.
