Sneaky letters hitting car owners


They know what kind of car you have. They know your address. And while their letters aren’t exactly a scam, they are at the least highly deceptive and manipulative.

“The way it reads,” says one Goldendale recipient, “it makes it seem like I asked for a quote for an extended service plan on my car. But I didn’t, and I never heard of these people.”

Her letter was from Vehicle Assurance Service Contracts (VASC) from St. Louis, Mo. It had her car make and model at the top, along with a boldface notice reading “2015 Price Increase.” And it began: “We have been advised there will be a price increase to our Extended Vehicle Service Plans (EVSP) effective Dec. 30, 2015.
