Maryhill Fruit stays in the family

Maryhill Fruit's Gary Takahashi is passing his business on to his niece, Kimiko Atkins, and both are ready to talk about the transfer. Atkins begins at the beginning-her family tree. The present conversation is important, but clearly too is her family's history.

"In 1936 Isami Tsubota and his brother Hitoshi came down here and started farming," she says. "The original farm is actually where the state park is now. That was Maryhill Gardens; this place over here is Maryhill Orchards. So there are two brothers that had their own little farms down here. During the war they got put into the encampment."
