Art Guild plans brainstorming round-table

The Golden Art Guild plans a round-table brainstorming session at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan 28, at the Camplan Room in the Goldendale Library.

Although the Golden Art Guild recently shuttered its 12-year-old cooperative gallery (Big River Art and Crafts, previously known as The Golden Art Gallery), the Guild, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is looking to the future.

The bad news was the recent closing of the retail arm of the Guild on Dec. 31, which left the community and visitors unable to support local and regional artists and craftspeople through retail purchases and, conversely, left artists and craftspeople without a marketplace. It also ended the annual tradition of hosting an event celebrating the arts, from the works of Red Skelton to the cultural works of Native Americans, Japan, Australia, and Africa, to the honoring of mosaics and glass.

The good news is that the Golden Art Guild says it remains dedicated to supporting arts and culture in the Goldendale area and Klickitat County. To this end, the Jan. 28 round-table has three goals:

• Explore the future role of the Guild

• Seek new and/or renewing members.

• Seek nominations for the Board of Directors (an election will be held Feb. 18).

This discussion is open to anyone with an interest in art, music, theater, dance, heritage, writing, craft, cuisine, wine, and any number of other aesthetic projects that add to people’s lives. Refreshments will be available.
