City council gets reports on thefts, public works, possible airport development

Goldendale City Council met last Tuesday night, pushed past last week’s Sentinel deadline by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday on Monday. The highlight of the meeting was a first-ever state of the city address by Mayor Mike Canon, who opened an executive summary of the six-page written report with the simple words, “The state of the city is great.”

Other good news came from Police Chief Reggie Bartkowski, who told councilors, “Our thefts have gone down to almost none, which I’m very happy to report.” He said police were still looking for one suspect connected to a recent series of arrests that led to that reduction, though he may have already fled the area.
