Burt Rooke

Lloyd Burton Rooke, 73, passed away at his home in Goldendale, Washington on January 18, 2016.

Known as "Burt," he was born in Portland, Oregon in 1942 to Evelyn Claire (Zeller) and Lloyd George Rooke. He attended St. Phillip Neri Elementary School and Grant High School in Portland. With three of his friends he joined the United States Navy in 1960. After his military service, Burt was honorably discharged in July of 1964 with a Radioman E5 rating. He went to Marylhurst College and received his Bachelor's Degree.

Mr. Rooke married Laura McReynolds in 1977. Burt was a purchasing manager for several years before becoming a sales representative, selling and implementing automated purchasing systems and safety equipment to technology companies in Oregon. He loved venturing in to the unknown and trying new things. He was always drawn to water sports, whether it be sailing, fishing, swimming, or scuba diving. He liked inventing gadgets and was good at woodworking and designed and made jewelry boxes from rare and exotic woods. Burt enjoyed bluegrass music and operating ham radio. For all his activities, he treasured the serenity he found when he moved to his Goldendale home.

Mr. Rooke had a heart for his daughters, nephews and nieces and an abiding faith in Jesus Christ. He was the past President of the Portland Toastmasters Club, and a member of the Purchasing Managers' Association, Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Laura of Goldendale; daughters Dana Moran of Pleasant Grove, Utah and Lisa Grimm of Portland; brother Steve Rooke in Arizona, cousins Kathy Persinger of Bend and Christie Stilson of Portland; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Edy Rooke and cousin Georgia Sue Leigh.
