Rexford Dale Holcomb was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on January 27, 1930 to Dorothy (Hayes) and Rexford Noel Holcomb. As a young boy, Rex moved with his family to Eugene, Oregon. He graduated from University High School in 1947 and then attended University of Oregon. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Rex married Mary Cerkoney in Boise, Idaho on November 2, 1950. He worked in the grocery business his entire adult life. The family moved to Goldendale, Washington in 1977 and purchased what was then the Hi-Way Market. They renamed it Holcomb's Market and have owned and operated it ever since. Rex loved golf, travel and laughter, he especially liked to laugh at his own jokes. Rex passed away at the Oregon Veterans' Home in The Dalles, Oregon on January 17, 2016 at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary, of Goldendale; children Bruce and Mary Holcomb of Goldendale, Connie Wilson of Portland and Diane Holcomb of Beaverton; sister Demaris Hayes of Eugene; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
