Albert Floyd Smith

Albert Floyd Smith, age 86, passed away January 10, 2016 at Garden Village in Yakima. He was born on a Friday, Dec. 13, 1929 in Noland Sanitarium in Camas, Clark County, Washington, to Floyd Raymond Smith and Bessie Sophia Monroe Smith. He was the youngest of four children.

He grew up and graduated from High School in Goldendale, WA. He enlisted in the Marines on the 4th day of Feb. 1948. One year and 4 months of the 4 years he served was on active duty in the Korean police action. He received an Honorary discharge February 3, 1952. At that time he was a temporary Corporal.

He married Rosemarie Myrick on June 2, 1957 in Goldendale. They divor-ced on January 1, 1960.

Albert got a job at the J. Neils Lumber Co. in Klickitat and met and married Jackie Laird in1961. They divorced and in 1965 he married Alice Moss .They had a son, Blaine Albert Smith born in 1966 in Goldendale . Albert also adopted Alice's other three sons, Chris Randall & Steve so they all became Smiths. The boys were 9, 7, & 5 at that time. Albert and Alice started Al and Alice's second hand store in Toppenish in 1972 but their marriage ended in divorce on Sept. 27, 1973. He married the love of his life, Nancy Salsburg, on March 18, 1978 in Port Angeles, where they met working together in a tavern. They moved to California where she died at Chrystal springs, CA on Jan. 1, 1989.

Albert came back to Goldendale where he was a member of the American Legion Club (Louis Leidl) for many years.

Albert was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was moved to nursing care in 2004. Albert resided at Garden Village until his death from complications of pneumonia.

Many people have said that a man's wealth is measured by the friends he leaves behind, and in that Albert was a rich man, always surrounded by family and friends who enriched his life in ways that are immeasurable. Al was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Walt and Herb, his sister Selma, his wife Nancy, and his nephew, Steve. He is survived by his sons, Chris, Randall, Steven, and Blaine Smith. Also nephews, Mike and Dale Smith and Jim McCollum.

A memorial will be held on a later date.
