Inmate found guilty of rape of cellmate

On Feb. 3, a Klickitat County jury found Charles W. Kuneki guilty of one count of Rape in the First Degree and one count of Harassment-Threats to Kill.

Kuneki was awaiting trial on another matter when he committed a vicious sexual assault on his jail house cellmate in August of 2014. Kuneki successfully fought off trial for nearly two and half years by demanding mental health evaluations and firing his defense attorney. His demand was eventually granted, and he was found mentally fit to be tried.

“I am extremely proud that we finally have been able to conclude this matter and hold Mr. Kuneki accountable”, said Klickitat County Prosecuting Attorney David R. Quesnel, “and I thank the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office and DPA David Wall for all their hard work.”

On March 7, Superior Court Judge Brain Altman sentenced Kuneki to 318 months to Life in prison, “I also thank the judge for imposing the maximum sentence allowed and I hope Mr. Kuneki never again walks the streets of Klickitat County” said Mr. Quesnel.
