England Soroptimist visits Goldendale

OPTIMISTIC SOROPTIMISTS: Left to right: Kay Kimmel, Barbara Robinson, Maria Marsh, and Betty Long-Schlief. Marsh is visiting from England through a Soroptimists Friendship Grant program.

She has that lilting accent of the British that Americans find so charming. "I'm from about 26 miles southeast from the center of London," says Maria Marsh, a guest of the Goldendale Soroptimists for a few days. She's here through a grant of friendship offered by the Northwest Pacific Region of Soroptimists, an international organization for women in management and professions, according to its website. "I think it runs every other year, and it's an invitation to people to come for three weeks to be taken around and work with the Soroptimists and find out what Soroptimists are doing over here, but also to find out more about America. It's extremely well run, and I am highly impressed."
