Mercury is in transit across the sun during May


Welcome to May! The year's fifth month contains two special planetary events this year, a transit of the planet Mercury on May 9, and the closest approach in two years of Mars, at the end of the month. Jupiter also stands bright after darkness falls, and Saturn slips into the evening sky, later at night. Nightfall comes later, but warmer weather, and a few more clear nights make May a good stargazing month.
