Lady Cougars hot and cold against Knights and Vikings

CONDON MEET: A lot of personal records were set at the track meet in Condon, Saturday. Lucas Anderson, of Goldendale (second from left) and Michael Gannon (fourth from left) each set marks in the 3000 meters.

Lyle-Wishram/Klickitat girls had a wide swing of fortunes in their last two double-headers. On April 21, the Lady Cougars gave up nine runs in the seventh inning to lose the opener 15-13. They bounced back with a 21-5 drubbing of the Lady Vikings in game two.

Last week, things went the opposite direction as they eked out a 7-6 win in the opener against Sunnyside Christian, but lost the night cap 29-7. It has all been a matter of pitching, according to Coach Yvette Schultz.

TIMBERWOLF TEAM: Conner Doubravsky earned points in discus for the Timberwolves' winning boys team.

LWK is down on pitchers with no body on the staff who has experience from last season. LWK numbers looked decent with the team knocking out 17 hits and reaching base on five walks and five errors. But, Cougar pitching gave up a whopping 22 walks while allowing just three hits. Even in the game winner pitched by MaeLynn Luke, there were 13 walks, but Mabton walked 14.

The first game against Sunnyside Christian looked like a more normal game with Luke giving up just four hits and three walks while striking out seven. Bridgette Jones was 3-4 in the game and Alex Cloud and Lacy Carse each had two hits for the Cougars.

LWK plays at Liberty Christian on Thursday and should play Mabton or Kittitas in the opening round of playoffs.
