White Salmon

Ahead of her time

To the Editor:

Jewett Boulevard in White Salmon was named after two of our early settlers, A.H. and Jenny Jewett. Jenny was a vice president of the Washington Woman Suffrage Association and played a critical role in causing the Washington State Constitution to be amended to give women the right to vote in 1910. Ten years later the U. S. Constitution was also amended to give women the right to vote. I think Jenny Jewett would appreciate the pin-back button I have that reads, “Play your Woman Card: Vote!”
