110 Years Ago - July 7, 1906
Fred Lawrence, a business man of Tacoma, tells the following in the Portland Sunday Journal: “I boarded a passenger train claimed by the Columbia River and Northern, which operates between Goldendale and Lyle, a distance of 43 miles. When we got on at Goldendale we had a down grade ride all the way to Lyle, and I was congratulating myself on a speedy journey and quick connections into Portland.
“It is true that I was not much impressed with the appearance of the train, which was made up of a combination baggage and passenger coach, a flatbed loaded with lumber and a freight car packed with merchandise.
