Burglars bungle pot shop robbery attempt

A burglary on the Bud Hut in Murdock was thwarted when two suspects conveniently stuck around long enough for Sgt. Fred Kilian of the Klickitat County Sheriff’s office to arrive. A gun was used to shoot into the door handle, dead bolt and outside camera, causing the alarms to go off, but no entry was gained. When Sgt. Kilian arrived, one man was walking around a pick-up out front of the building. Upon seeing the officer, the man quickly got into the vehicle. Sgt. Kilian was able to force two men out of the vehicle at gun point. Back-up from the city of The Dalles and Skamania County Sheriff’s office arrived. Arrested were Colton Mulvaney, 20, of The Dalles and William Krueger, 24, of Dallesport. Mulvaney faced recommended charges of 1st degree burglary, 3rd degree theft and malicious mischief. Krueger was arrested under the charge of 1st degree burglary.

On the evening of July 16, Deputy Pat Kaley observed an ATV illegally operating on the road near Elk Meadows, outside Trout Lake. When Kaley pursued with lights on, the vehicle exited down a logging road, where Kaley lost contact. The deputy followed tracks on foot and found a Rhino ATV. It was determined that the driver was Shay Smith, 27, of Trout Lake. Smith later turned himself in and was subject to the felony charge of attempt to elude.
