Fatal crash at Dallesport Airport

August 3, 2016

A plane crashed upon landing Monday morning at the Columbia Gorge Regional/The Dalles Municipal Airport. The pilot was transported by medical helicopter with injuries.

According to staff at the airport, the pilot lives in the region and flew frequently out of the airport. Upon hearing the crash, airport staff responded to the crash site, as did the crew of a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter parked at the airport. The Coast Guard crew provided emergency medical care until the arrival of an ambulance crew from the Dallesport Fire Department.

A witness on scene said the plane was approaching to land when a wing appeared to dip and strike the ground.

A spokesman for the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office told The Sentinel that the pilot did not survive. No name was released.
