Police make arrests in Lyle burglary

On July 29 near 11 p.m. hours the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of three people breaking into the Lyle Mercantile. Deputies Pat Kaley, Ross Guiney, and Randy Wells responded and started looking for the suspects. An officer from Bingen/ White Salmon Police Department and Troopers from the Washington State Patrol came to assist. While the deputies were in the area, they heard someone yelling a chant and made contact with Silas Howtopat 39, of Goldendale and Anthony Heemsah 27 of Lyle. They were found to be in possession of beer and had minor cuts and shards of glass on their clothes.

One of the subjects admitted to breaking into the store and stealing the beer. Both subjects were arrested and booked into jail for Burglary 2nd degree, Malicious Mischief 2nd degree and Theft 3rd degree. The third suspect is still at large. The case is still under investigation.
