Governor proclaims this Farmers Market Week

HEALTHFUL OPTION: A blueberry, cucumber salad is one of the recommended meal adjuncts to be found at Goldendale Farmers' Market, held on Saturday's in Ekone Park.

Governor Jay Inslee signed a proclamation designating Aug. 7-13 Farmers Market Week. In the proclamation, Inslee notes that Washington Agriculture generates $10 billion annually to the State's economy and that there are more than 170 farmers markets in the state.

One of those is in Goldendale. The Goldendale Farmers' Market is open on Saturdays in Ekone Park, north off SR142, aka East Broadway. The hours for the Market are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition to fresh produce, the Market also features music, hands on activities for children and much more.

This Saturday, music will be provided by Rick Johnston and the Goldendale Community Library will be on hand to provide kids activities.

Gov. Inslee's proclamation noted that "farmers markets also support artisans, prepared food businesses and other vendors," which is certainly true of Goldendale's Farmers' Market.

The proclamation also states that "farmers markets support farm families, rural jobs, community food security and preserve farmland and ope space adding to our quality of life; and farmers markets contribute to the economic and social vitality of many communities, creating a positive social experience and educating consumers about their food and where it comes from."
