Marjorie States


Marjorie Anne States, 81, passed away in The Dalles, Oregon on August 6, 2016. She was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon on June 9, 1935 to Nelreatha Evanvaline (Glass) and Harry Carl Frost. Marjorie was raised in the Bay Area and graduated from San Lorenzo High School in 1953. She met Douglas Earl States in 1956 and the couple married in 1957. Doug was drafted into military service and deployed to Germany as a military police officer. He died in Germany in 1959. Doug and Marjorie’s daughter, Charlene, was born September 13, 1958. Marjorie worked as a cook for the Centerville School and as a bookkeeper for the U.S. Forest service, where she worked until her retirement. She was also involved in Senior Services. Mrs. States was a member of the LDS church and served a mission in Nashville, Tennessee from 1988-1989. She enjoyed dogs, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marjorie is preceded in death by her husband Doug; daughter Charlene Dyment; and brothers Carl David Frost and Blake Stone Chambers. She is survived by brother Fred Frost of Goldendale; sister Jeri McDowell of Methuen, Massachusetts; grandchildren Candice (Steven) Bischoff, Adam (Danielle) Dyment, Ashley (Ryan) Gleckner and Joseph Dyment ; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 11 at 10 a.m. at the LDS Church in Goldendale with interment at the Centerville Cemetery. To send condolences to Marjorie’s family, please visit
