Real danger for wind fans is getting to the water



TOO LITTLE SAFE SPACE: Cars parked anywhere they could around Lyle last week. Wind surfers faced danger crossing the highway and railroad tracks to get to the water.

At the intersection of Old Highway 8 and Highway 14 there's a small parking area. On windy days this area is jam packed with sail boarding enthusiasts, but Saturday the wind was particularly inviting to many of these fans, and the parking spilled out and up Old Highway 8. The problem they face is the fact that there is no safe access to the river from here except to cross the busy State Highway 14 and then the BNSF Railroad tracks (which the Railroad Company deems illegal), or face the challenges of the dangerous and hazardous under-the-railway path, along a cliff above the Klickitat River.
