Marie Spencer Ritter


Born in Grainton, Nebraska, to Waite and Troy Spencer as the second of seven children, she grew up in Nebraska, Kansas and New Mexico, until the family settled in the Goldendale area in 1936 In 1940 she met Lee Ritter, of Gold Hill, Oregon. They were married in Reno, Nevada, in 1941, and lived most of their happily-married 62 years in Maryhill, Washington.

Marie was actively involved in community activities, including Boy Scouts, 4-H, Child Evangalism and a life-long affiliation with the Church. Children were her abiding passion, and her chocolate chip cookies satisfied many a youngster/s sweet tooth.

She was preceded in death by daughter Jarene, in 1953, son Arnold, husband Lee in 2003, and four brothers, William, James, Robert and Lee Willard.

Survivors include sisters RoJean Atkins, Unity, Oregon, and Virginia Stein of Bakersfield, California; daughter Sandra Lee Zeigler, Beaverton, Oregon, son Roger Troy Ritter, Clements, California; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

There will be a Memorial Service celebrating her life at the Grace Brethren Church in Goldendale on Saturday, October 1 at 11 a.m. Private interment will be at the Mountain View IOOF Cemetery in Goldendale.

Memorial donations may be made to the Grace Brethren Church.
