Maryhill Winery celebrates 15th Harvest weekend

Among many other places around the Gorge, Maryhill Winery is keying up to celebrate harvest with one more weekend of family-friendly fun on Oct. 8-9.

It is traditional that wineries celebrate the harvest every year, and Maryhill Winery has kept with this tradition since they opened 15 years ago.

“To me harvest means the end of summer and the beginning of a new season of winemaking,” co-owner Craig Leuthold says. “The experience of smelling dozens of fermentation tanks bubbling away is one that I always look forward to every year.”

As usual, this year’s event will include opportunities for visitors to participate in grape-stomping, roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire, taste Maryhill wines, play bocce, listen to live music, and save up to 50 percent on case specials. Included with the grape stomping is the option to purchase a commemorative tie-dyed “Harvest Celebration” T-shirt to leave your grape-infused footprint upon; shirts will be $12.

Besides wrapping up the growing season, this event will also be the last few weekends for the seasonal Terrace Music program. Providing the musical entertainment for these last days will be artists Willy & Nelson on Oct. 8 and The Gravy on Oct. 9.

One aspect of the winery’s event which sets it apart from other harvest celebrations is the fact that visitors are actually able to see the production on site. According to Maryhill Marketing Director Cassie Courtney, there are also others.

“There’s the unique component that you get to hang out on the terrace and listen to live music for free,” Courtney said. “And then the hot dog and marshmallow roast also is really fun for families and kids, and that’s free. Sometimes you’ll go harvest celebrations and you’ll have to pay an entrance fee or something, and we basically try to provide that to all of our guests.”

Next up on the calendar for Maryhill is their Wine Release Weekend on Oct. 15-16, then they are set to host their biannual Holiday Open House and Wine Sale from Nov. 19 through the 27. For more information about this or upcoming events and specials, you can visit http://www.maryhillwinery.com.
