World Culture Evening set


The Seventh Day Adventist Church will hold an evening of “World Cultures, Ancient and Modern,” cultures from around the world. The church is calling it an evening of fun and education on Sunday, Oct. 30 at the Better Living Center, 59 Bickleton Road, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The church is inviting people from the community to join Goldendale Adventist School by choosing a country. For those who wish to participate, the church will provide a table and guests can bring pictures and items to put on the table or back drop. You may include maps and pictures, and the church will provide display for pictures. You can use fabric, wood or any other material appropriate to display your culture. The church asks guests to try to dress appropriately for the selected culture and be able to talk about items on display and answer questions about the culture. Some facts may include: Language spoken, music, clothing, holidays, history, religion, import/exports, population, animals, foods, and music.

The church asks participants to prepare one kind of vegetarian food from the selected country/culture to feed 40-50 people. Cooking facilities are available, as are stove, refrigerators, sinks and dishes. The doors will be open at 1 p.m. for preparing foods and displaying the culture items on Sunday, Oct. 30.

The countries that have been chosen thus far are: Taiwan, New Guinea, South Korea, Guyana, Comoros, India, Tonga, and Samoa. The list is still growing every day. You may choose one country that has already been chosen. The church is endeavoring to have as much diversity as possible. There will be no fee for the event but a donation jar will be there for the Goldendale Adventist School.
