Edmond Clair Layman, 82, passed away at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 21, 2016 at his home in Goldendale, Washington. He was born in Goldendale on Feb. 6, 1934 to Ethyl Kane (Brooks) and Douglas Milo Layman. Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On April 18, 1999, he married Shirley Diane Olsen in Kona, Hawaii. Ed was a businessman, operating Layman's Red Rock for many years as well as working as a logger. He owned Blockhouse, which provided red sand for roads all over the area and rock for different landscaping. Ed was a member of the American Legion. He loved family time and travelling, especially to Hawaii. Mr. Layman is survived by his twin sister Ruth Wilber of Dallesport, Washington; daughter Kristine Smalling of Bend, Oregon; son Todd Layman of Spokane, Washington; wife Diane Layman of Goldendale; stepsons Kenneth Olsen of The Dalles, Oregon, Kirk Olsen of Livermore, California, Peter Olsen of Newberg, Oregon and Archie Olsen of Carson, Washington; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers George and James Layman.
