City examines deal with animal shelter contractor Mabrey, facing criminal charges, apologizes to council

DOGGED EFFORTS: Concern has arisen about whether or not the city's contract with Dogs of the Gorge will be renewed.

Another chance for DOGs

Statements of support, praise, and cooperation were the overwhelming response to the latest wrinkle in the unfolding Dogs of the Gorge (DOG) saga, which played out at Monday night's city council meeting. The first sign of trouble came the previous Monday, in a posting on the DOG Facebook page. The message said that the city had opted not to renew its contract with the organization, which provides shelter and sets up adoptions for stray dogs on an entirely volunteer basis. This would mean that after Dec. 31, it would have to vacate the city animal shelter on Wing Road, its current base of operation. DOG would be homeless.
