Police chief: overall city crime is down


The Goldendale City Council met Monday in a meeting delayed from last week by inclement weather.

They heard good news from Chief Reggie Bartkowski, who had some comparative crime statistics from 2015 and 2016. He said the number of total calls to which the department responded dropped by 10 percent, from 3,096 in 2015 to 2,786 in2016. There was a similar drop in total reported crimes, from 322 to 290. But the most significant number came in the property crime category, which dropped more than 40 percent, from 183 in 2015 to just 105 last year. Both the chief and the mayor attributed that drop to increased public vigilance and the many neighborhood watch signs listing the number to report...
