School levy passes

A big thank you from the Lyle school board and students: Early returns show Lyle School District’s 2017 replacement maintenance and operations levy is passing with over 62 percent approval of the community’s voters.

“#ALLmeansALL moves one step closer to reality for Lyle School District’s students with the passage of this levy,” Superintendent Andrew Kelly commented. On behalf of the school board, staff, students and parents, Kelly thanked voters for believing in the potential of all students and supporting the district’s work.

For all you avid readers out there, the library bookmobile will now be located in different locations in Lyle as well as Dallesport. On Wednesdays it will be at the Lyle Merc from 9:45 to 10:05 a.m., Lyle High School from 10:25 to 12:30 p.m. and Dallesport school property from 1:45 to 3:00 p.m. There is still a lot of winter ahead of us and this is a good way to exercise your mind and reading skills. If the driver doesn’t have a certain book you are looking for, they can see about ordering it for you for the next week.

A special treat is coming to the Lyle Hotel. A comedy night is planned for Saturday, Feb. 25 starting at 7 p.m. Advanced registration is suggested because of the limited seating. A $15.00 fee covers dinner, drinks and the show. Featured comedians are from the top five of a Portland competition. Call (509) 365-5953 for more information.

Our Lyle PTO group is hosting a math night next Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Lyle School. The PTO is in need of volunteer support for this event—please let them know if you are interested in helping. They have also launched a “Random Acts of Kindness Week” and hope that you will celebrate with them by being randomly kind at least five times each day! It makes you feel good, too!

The Annual Klickitat Pirate Carnival, which is on Sunday, March 12, is looking for help with booth setup, activities and take-down. If you are willing to help, call Rita, coordinator for the Klickitat-Lyle Against Substance Abuse Coalition, at (360) 952-3569.

If you belong to an organization or business in the local area and are planning a special event you wish the public to know about, contact me. My email and phone number are at the top of the column. I prefer an email so I can glean from it and fit it into space available.
