Bickleton student state finalist for poetry

Rhys Chapman represented Bickleton and Klickitat County at Poetry Out Loud State Finals Saturday, March 4 in Tacoma. Poetry out Loud is a national program funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Washington State Arts Commission. It encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance, helping students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.

Rhys did very well: he performed “America” by Claude McKay and “Kubla Khan” by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The state winner who will represent WA in our nation's capital in April came from Anacortes High School. Well done, Rhys, for a stellar performance.

Bickleton is having their Annual Benefit Bingo Party Friday, March 10, at the Grange Hall. The Baked Potato Dinner is 5 – 7 p.m. Bingo starts soon after that. Bingo prizes may be left at The Store.
