Andrew Gerchak 3rd, golf takes sixth in Sunnyside

March 22, 2017

Senior Andrew Gerchak shot a team best 80 and led four Timberwolves golfers who finished with fewer than 100 strokes as Goldendale finished sixth out of 22 teams on Monday in Sunnyside.

Gerchak’s round of 80 over 18 holes placed him in a tie for third, while the four other Goldendale golfers posted better marks than their previous two matches.

Luke Gerchak followed Andrew for an 86, Jess Beierle shot his best round of the early season with a 92, 10 strokes better than what he shot on March 10 in Othello and Jace Enwards cut seven strokes off his opening season score with a 97. Logan Quantrell rounded out the five Goldendale golfers with a 110, a two stroke improvement over his first two matches.

Goldendale fifth in The Dalles

Andrew Gerchak shot an 82 for sixth place as the Timberwolves finished fifth out of 10 teams last Friday in The Dalles.

Last year’s No. 18 finisher at the state golf championships notched another top-10 finish and improved by two strokes over his round of 84 last week in Othello. Gerchak and his brother, Luke, were the two Timberwolves who shot under 100 on Friday, finishing with a 95 that placed him 19th out of 44 golfers.

Following the Gerchaks were Enwards, whose round of 101 in the 18 holes was a three-stroke improvement over last week’s opener, Beierle, who shot a 105 for 31st place and Quantrell, who finished in 38th with a 112.

The Timberwolves are back on the course Thursday in Hermiston starting at 10 a.m. and travel to Wenatchee on Saturday for a 10 a.m. tee time. Thursday will be the first time Goldendale’s girls are in action.

Goldendale has three girls on this year’s squad, Emily Hurst, Morgan Coin and Aurora McLaughlin.
