Goldendale tennis wins home opener, sweeps Wahluke

WITHIN REACH: Goldendale senior Edgar Vega just reaches the ball during his doubles match with Ignacio Cano against Cle Elum on Thursday. The pair beat the Warriors No. 1 doubles team 6-0, 6-2.

After its boys and girls both dropped season-opening matches on March 14 in Granger, the Timberwolves tennis team responded with strong performances last Thursday in Goldendale against Cle Elum and on Saturday at Wahluke.

Goldendale's girls easily handled the Cle Elum Warriors (5-0) in its South Central Athletic Conference home opening meet on Thursday while its boys split two matches each with the Warriors, who were competing outside for the first time this season.

Isabell Nadler and Alyssa Simmons each won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches. Nadler knocked off Marrissa Wolf 7-5, 6-1 while Simmons defeated Amanda Carl 6-0, 6-1.
