Goldendale softball set for home opener vs Zillah

April 19, 2017

After last Tuesday’s nonleague doubleheaders on the road in Kiona-Benton, the Goldendale baseball and softball teams were away from the diamond last weekend, but each team returns to the fields in a few days for a South Central Athletic Conference doubleheader against the Zillah Leopards.

After playing the first eight games of the season away from home, the Timberwolves softball team finally will receive some home cooking on Friday with the Leopards coming to town for two games on with first pitch set for 3 p.m.

Mike Hood Memorial Field took a beating after the unusual snowfall and wet conditions throughout the winter, enough so that the team couldn’t practice on it for the first few weeks this season.

The team’s home opening doubleheader against the Rangers on March 25 had to be moved to Naches while the infield still remained muddy, but coaches Stephen McCandless and Nick Weis put in a lot of hours to make the field playable.

The baseball team, on the other hand, hosts the Leopards for two games on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
