ON TO NATIONALS: The Goldendale U14 Gold volleyball team poses after Friday's Regional Bid Tournament in Spokane.

After an extremely busy three days of volleyball, the Goldendale Volleyball Club U14 team has finally accomplished its season-long goal while accomplishing something that hasn't been done before in the club's 13 years.

Competing at the Regional Bid Tournament on Friday at the Spokane Convention Center, the U14 Gold won three of four pool play games in the morning before advancing to bracket play where they knocked off the team from Sand Point, Idaho, to earn a spot in the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships. The championship, which runs from June 24-28 in Minneapolis, features qualifying teams from 12 regions across the country.

"They were screaming and yelling and jumping up and down," Mitchell said. "I was choked up. It was an amazing moment for our team. I was super excited to see the girls accomplish our goal."

After earning the bid to nationals, Goldendale's Gold team continued the full weekend of volleyball by competing Saturday and Sunday in the Evergreen Region Volleyball Association Regional Tournament.

The team placed 13th out of 55 total teams from Washington and Idaho, and were engaged in plenty of tough three-set matches along the way.

They were locked in and completely focused, Mitchell said, and were playing some of their best volleyball over the three days. The team played in 29 sets over the three days, Mitchell also said.

The team will be practicing hard two days a week while also fundraising to help pay for the cost of the trip. If you would like to make a donation or learn more about the national tournament, give Mitchell a call at 509-250-2122.
