State Poet Laureate in Goldendale today



POET IN MOTION: Washington State's Poet Laureate Todd Marshall is at the Goldendale Library today.

Today, Washington state's Poet Laureate visits Goldendale. Todd Marshall, who was appointed to the position in 2016, plans to visit Goldendale schools in the morning, then host an adult poetry writing workshop at the Goldendale Community Library from 2 – 4 p.m., followed by a reading from 6 – 7 p.m. The office of poet laureate was established by the state legislature in 2007 to build awareness and appreciation of poetry throughout Washington. Poets self-nominate, and are then selected by the governor on a recommendation from the Washington Arts Commission. Each laureate serves a two-year term.
