The Goldendale Sentinel - Headlines & History since 1879

Editor's note

Editor’s note: And yet here you are still checking the Letters section of your local newspaper—as do many others. Fantasies about the doom or irrelevance of print media remain uncorroborated by repeated and up-to-the-minute studies, including the appeal and utility of letters sections. To the point about scanners, The Sentinel has one, too, but unlike most posters the newspapers takes time to verify information before posting. Forty percent of people get their news from Facebook, with only a small fraction of that material being accurate; most of it is unsubstantiated repeats of mistaken information. Over years, Letters in rural newspapers hit off-and-on slow stretches.
