CenturyLink fined for 911 outage

CenturyLink has been fined $123,000 for its failure to notify state officials in a timely manner about an outage of service last year that seriously compromised 911 service, according to a report by the Associated Press (AP).

The outage chiefly affected service to Klickitat and Skamania counties emergency services agencies. According to AP, the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission Thursday fined CenturyLink for failing to let state regulators know of the outage as required by state rules.

In 2013 CenturyLink was penalized with a fine of $173,000 for failing to adequately respond to a 10-day outage in the San Juan Islands, the AP report stated.
