Scam calls use 'prank' apps


A rash of fake telemarketing phone calls has hit the Goldendale area, with caller IDs on receiving phones showing various phony business and organizations, including The Sentinel, KPUD, and county offices. The ability to make such calls is incredibly easy—anyone can buy an app or a card for their phone that simply allows a caller to enter any phone number and caller ID and make it look as if the call is coming from that person or company.
