Goldendale vet calls it a career


After 41 years of military service Goldendale resident Jan (pronounced Yan) Johansen retired on May 31 from the United States Army National Guard in what Johansen says is a “bittersweet” ending to a long and fulfilling career, leaving the service with the rank of First Sergeant.

Thirty-five of those years were spent with the 234th Army Band allowing Johansen to travel, perform for foreign dignitaries, playing for former president George W. Bush, and forming life-long friendships with his bandmates.
