Denney plays in WCL All star Game, Home Run Derby

Former Goldendale High School standout Lucas Denney was one of 10 players who competed in the 2017 West Coast League Home Run Derby presented by Wildhorse Casino, blasting five home runs in one round of action.

The derby was held in the Yakima Valley Pippins home crowd at Joe Martin Stadium on July 17, one day before the West Coast League All-Star Game was held at the same field.

Denney also started at first base for the South All Stars and helped lead the team to a 5-2 win over the North All Stars by drawing two walks and driving in a run while also scoring a run of his own.

Denney has increased his average to .336 for the Pippins, who, at 21-21, sit in third place in the South Division of the two division West Coast League.

In 26 games so far this year, Denney has slugged 13 doubles (second in the league) and seven bombs (fifth in league), while his .336 batting average holds him at sixth in the 11 team league.

Denney and the Pippins took the field on the road against the Bend Elks at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, but results weren’t available at press time. After finishing the three-game series with Bend, the Pippins return home for three games against the Port Angeles Lefties.
