CHIP SHOT: Jeff Furlong lines up a shot during Sunday's portion of the Member-Guest Open at the Goldendale Golf Club. Furlong and partner Bruce Eccleston were the top net team at 115 strokes.

There were a handful of impressive rounds after the opening day of one of the biggest golf tournaments each year in Goldendale, the Member-Guest Open, but Jeff Furlong and Bruce Eccleston paired for sub 60 rounds both Friday and Saturday for a 115 total while claiming the net championship.

Furlong and Eccleston shot a 59 to open over 18 holes on Saturday and tied for the day two lead with a 56 to finish with a net score of 115 over 36 holes, finishing five strokes ahead of the second place finishing net squad of Jeff and Trevor Fields, who finished with a 60 each day for a two-day total of 120.

Fields and Fields finished as the top net team in the first of the two flights at 120, besting the first flight's second place net team of Roger Telford and John Painter, by one stroke. Telford and Painter equaled the Fields' Sunday score of 60 and finished Saturday one stroke behind them with a 61. Five other teams in flight one finished in the 120s for net, including Chris Barthlow and Tyler Austin, who ended the tournament as the first flight's first place gross team with a 137 over 36 holes.

Barthlow and Austin led the entire field of 21 teams in the gross (64) and net (58) scores after Saturday, and held off Bill Payne and Josh Waller by one stroke over both days in the gross. Payne and Waller, who finished second in the first flight in the gross at 138, were the top gross team at the 2016 Member-Guest Open with a total of 132.

Matt Anderson and Joe Shelton were right in the mix in the first flight for the gross and net titles, but finished just two strokes off the lead at 139 in the gross and three strokes off the lead in the net at 123.

After Furlong and Eccleston's top net score overall, Keith Grundei and Alan Shipp took first place in the net in the second flight with a two-day total of 123 after shooting a 58 on Saturday and 65 on Sunday.

Grundei and Shipp were followed by the duo of Rick and Art Mains as the second flight's second place net team with a 36-hole total of 124 with rounds of 62 on both days.

Larry Hurst and Brent Armstrong, with an 80 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday, topped the second flight's leaderboard with a gross score of 154, although Matt Counts and Andy Jaekel were right behind. Both teams shot 80 on Saturday, but Sunday, Counts and Jaekel shot a 75 to finish one stroke off the lead for second place at 155.

Along with his first place net finish, Jeff Fields also finished closest to the pin on one hole each on Saturday and Sunday. He landed on the green closer to the pin on hole No. 13 than anyone else on Saturday, and closer than anyone else on hole No. 18 on Sunday.

On Saturday, Matt Anderson finished closest to the pin on hole No. 4, Gordy Rowe won the challenge on hole No. 9 and Roger Telford was closest on hole No. 18.

The KP contest continued Sunday on the same holes with Jess Kayser winning on No. 4, Butch Beyerlin winning on No. 13 and Sam Wilkins winning on No. 9.

The Goldendale Golf Club hosts a pair of events coming up in early September. The Ladies Club Championship is set for Sept. 7 and 8 while the Holcomb's Open runs on from Sept. 9-10.
