AHD attacking deer in area

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has reported an outbreak of Adenovirus Hemorrhagic Disease (AHD) in local deer populations east of Goldendale, confirming the first ever cases of AHD in Washington State.

Reports of dead fawns near Bickleton started in July and have continued into August. The WDFW worked with local landowners to find fresh carcasses and used tissue samples to confirm AHD was the cause of death.

“We don’t know the full extent of the outbreak so far,” District Wildlife Biologist Stephanie Bergh said. “but we are tracking it to see if it is growing…we want people to know what is going on.”
