Jobs in Gorge slightly down, taxable sales up

Quarterly benchmarking resulted in a downward revision of about 100 jobs in the Gorge.

Revised data do follow what preliminary estimates were indicating: employment changed very little in the first quarter of the year. If the updated estimates from April forward are correct, that trend continued in the second quarter and into July.

Nonfarm employment declined by 355 jobs in July, matching the typical seasonal trend. Private sector employment rose by 255 jobs, with much of the hiring in leisure & hospitality (+160) and trade, transportation and utilities-the summer tourism season was in full swing.
