City street light upgrades begin

September 20, 2017

Potelco Incorporated will begin installation of LED street lighting in the cities of Goldendale, White Salmon, and Bingen.

All three cities applied for and received Transportation Improvement Board (TIB) Grants which were focused on energy savings, to cover the costs of the new lighting fixtures and installation. After evaluations of several lighting manufacturers and options, all three cities selected common fixtures that are compliant with the latest dark-sky standards for LED lighting, as recommended by the International Dark Sky Association (ISDA).

Potelco began installations in Goldendale on Sept 18. Installations will begin in White Salmon on Oct. 4 and in Bingen on Oct. 16. Work in the downtown areas will be scheduled to minimize the impacts on traffic and parking in congested areas. The Potelco crews will be in vehicles that are clearly marked with the Potelco company logo.

A statement from the Klickitat County PUD released last week says the project should move ahead briskly. “We are very optimistic that the projects in the three cities will be completed the last week of October,” it stated. “We appreciate your patience while we work with Potelco and the cities to complete this project.”
