Suspect in pot shop shooting captured in city

Donovan Culps' picture caught by camera at a Cheney marijuana store minutes before he shot an employee.

Thursday the Goldendale Police Department (GPD), in conjunction with federal, state, and county agencies, assisted in the apprehension of 36-year-old Donovan Culps for the alleged kidnapping and murder of 46-year-old Cameron Smith, a marijuana shop employee in Cheney, Washington.

The GPD received information from the multi-jurisdictional Yakima Violent Crime Task Force that Culps was in the Goldendale area at an apartment in the 500 block of East Main Street.

At about 2 p.m. Culps was taken into custody after trying to elude police before crashing his car into a tree about four blocks away. Culps, and two other occupants of the car, were captured shortly after fleeing the scene of the cr...
